For Users Of Woods® Model 1130, 1130-2, 1160 and 1160-2 Post Hole Diggers
(Purchased from January 1998 through December 2002)

It has been discovered that the shear bolt that connects the driveline to the gearbox input shaft is slightly longer than necessary. This allows the securing nut to protrude slightly through the access hole of the “cone-shaped” plastic input shield. The bolt may also be a grade 5 rather than the recommended grade 2.

Additionally, it appears that some units were shipped with certain Safety Decals missing.

The protruding nut could possibly become an area of entanglement, which could result in serious injury or death. Additionally, if the Safety Decals are missing, important safety information is not readily available to users and others regarding the safe operation of the equipment.

If you purchased a Woods® Model 1130 or 1160 Post Hole Digger with a plastic “cone-shaped” input shield from January 1998 through December 2002, your unit may have a grade 5 shear bolt with an attaching nut that protrudes about ¼” beyond the outer radius of the “cone-shaped” input shield. If so, please contact your dealer and request that an Up-Date Kit (#1004699) be installed for you. It will be installed, free of charge (per Safety Advisory 1/03).
